Leo Uhl (born November 27, 1875 in Vienna ; † April 25, 1934 there ) was a Viennese folk singer , genre humorist , actor and innkeeper .

Life

Leo Uhl was born in what was then the Vienna suburb of Lerchenfeld . After a few years of wandering in a wandering group of actors in the provinces, he returned to his hometown of Vienna and performed there with Edmund Guschelbauer and Luise Montag . Uhl soon became popular because of his singing and acting achievements, especially his Viennese types, "Wasserer" and "Mistbauer". A "waterer" was a horse and cart washer, a servant of the fiaker who also had to provide the horses with water.

In 1896 he played in the folk singer society Schieferl together with Mirzl Kühne in J. Mandl's Etablissement, Hernals in the main street. From 1904 to 1909 he was a member of the Budapest Orpheum Society . He then played in the horticultural establishment with Hermine Ferry and the comedian Martin Schenk . Together with his cousin, the folk poet and composer Ludwig Gruber , who wrote over 2000 Viennese songs, he founded a summer variety theater. In 1913 he took over the management of Neufellner's New Orpheum establishment. Most recently he ran the Alt Wiener Platzerl tavern in Salmannsdorf, where he not only delighted his guests with food and drink, but also with performances.

His grave is in Vienna's central cemetery, Gruft 30 B Row 16, Grave 27.
