Ludwig Gruber (composer)
Ludwig Gruber (born July 13, 1874 in Ottakring ; † July 21, 1964 there ) was an Austrian composer , singer , writer , conductor and theater director .
Life
At a young age, Ludwig Gruber learned to play the piano from his uncle. He later attended a conservatory where he studied organ, piano and harmony. His teachers included personalities such as Robert Fuchs , Ferdinand Löwe and Franz Schalk .
After various positions as Kapellmeister , including in the Czech spa town of Karlsbad , Ludwig Gruber co-founded a stage that performed his pieces.
As a soldier in the First World War , Gruber composed the Austrian Landsturmlied in 1914 . He was taken prisoner by Russia and did not return home until 1920.
His work includes operas and operettas, choral and church compositions, but also male choirs, singspiele and folk songs. Above all, Ludwig Gruber (to whom a total of over 1000 songs are attributed) is known for his Viennese songs , including Mei Muatterl was a Viennese, that's why I love Vienna so much! and it will be a wine (and we will be nimma) .
