Leo Valiani

Leo Valiani (born February 9, 1909 in Fiume , † September 18, 1999 in Milan ) was an Italian politician and journalist.

Valiani was imprisoned under the regime of Benito Mussolini . He later fled to France and returned to Italy in 1943. There he took an active part in the resistance against the German occupation in northern Italy. After changing parties several times, he belonged to the Partito Repubblicano Italiano from the 1980s onwards.

In 1980 he was appointed Senator for Life by Sandro Pertini .

As a journalist he worked for Il Mondo , L'Espresso and Il Corriere della Sera, among others .
