Leonard Andries (Leo) de Vries (born November 9, 1932 in Amsterdam , Netherlands - † March 15, 1994 in Aldaar , Netherlands) was a sculptor .

life and work

De Vries completed a professional training as a stone sculptor at the Rijksomscholing Haarlemmerweg in 1951 and studied sculpture from 1952 to 1957, among others with Piet Esser at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam . De Vries mainly works as a stone sculptor for abstract human figures. From 1958 to 1964 he was a lecturer at the Rijksacademie and from 1975 to 1986 at the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming (professional training Leraren Tehatex) in Amsterdam.

De Vries was a member of the Nederlandse Kring van Beeldhouwers (German: Dutch Sculpture Circle ) from 1962 to 1965 and a founding member of the Groep Scorpioa in 1962 with others such as Jan Sierhuis , John Grosman , Karl Pelgrom , Pierre van Soest and Aat Verhoog .
