Leon James Britton (born November 29, 1982 in Merton , London ) is an English football player who is employed by the Welsh football club Swansea City . He is one of the few players who has played with a club in all four English professional football leagues.

Career

Britton was accepted into the Arsenal FC youth academy at the age of nine . In 1998 he was transferred to West Ham United for £ 400,000 . Up until then, it was the highest transfer fee ever paid for a 16-year-old player. However, he could not prevail at West Ham. In 2002 it was awarded to Swansea City . After he knew how to convince there, he was firmly committed from 2003. Britton performed well throughout his first stint at Swansea. He was voted “Player of the Year” by fans in the 2002/03 and 2005/06 seasons. With Swansea he also managed to move up from the fourth to the second division. In 2010, Britton's contract with Swansea City expired. He decided against a contract extension and instead moved to Sheffield United on a free transfer . However, due to the difficult conditions at the club itself, he only played 24 times for Sheffield and moved back to Swansea in January 2011. It was agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. At the end of the 2011/12 season he rose to the Premier League with the "Swans" . On March 30, 2012, Britton extended his contract with Swansea to 2015.
