Leon Dabo

Leon Dabo (born July 9, 1864 in Paris, France, according to other sources 1865, 1868, 1869 or 1870, in Detroit or Grosse Pointe; † November 7, 1960 in Manhattan , New York ) was an American landscape painter of tonalism .

Life

During the First World War, Dabo worked for the French secret service. Dabo was influenced by John La Farge , Pierre Puvis de Chavannes and James Abbott McNeill Whistler and became a Knight of the Légion d'honneur in 1934 . In 1944 Dabo was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design . His brother Scott Dabo was also a painter.
