Leonard Fu

Leonard Fu  (born April 1,  1997  in  Kiel ) is a German violinist .

Life

Born in Kiel, Fu began his musical education at the age of 4 on the piano. At the age of 7 he began taking violin lessons with Ina Kertscher at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH). At the age of 11 he was accepted as a young student of the IFF (Institute for Early Support for the Musically Gifted) and studied with Lara Lev. In 2009 he became a young student at the AFA (Andreas-Franke-Akademie) at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and studied in Tanja Becker-Bender's violin class . Since autumn he has been studying for a bachelor's degree with Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, USA.

Since the beginning of his musical training, Fu has won various national and international competitions, such as B. Jugend musiziert (2013, 1st prize in the national competition, both violin solo and with his piano trio). In 2009 he was the youngest finalist and 2nd prize winner at the 16th International Competition Andrea Postacchini in Italy in category B (12-16 years). In September 2013, at the age of 16, Fu was the youngest participant, finalist and multiple prize winner at the “32nd International Violin Competition 'Rodolfo Lipizer'” in Gorizia, Italy. In September 2014 Fu won 1st prize at the TONALi music competition in Hamburg. In the final he gave a concert with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under the direction of Alexander Shelley in the Hamburg Laeiszhalle . In addition to the main prize, Fu won the audience and music education prize and numerous concerts, including a. at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Music Festival and in the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, as well as the loan of a Nicolaus Gagliano from Florian Leonhard Fine Violins, London.

Fu took part in various master classes since 2009, where he performed as a soloist a. a. with Mauricio Fuks, Boris Garlitsky, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Regis Pasquier and Andreas Röhn and chamber music a. a. learned from Eduard Brunner, Manuel Fischer-Dieskau, Tatevik Mokatsian and Atar Arad. He also had appearances and concerts in Germany, a. a. in the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, in Austria, Italy, Spain and Russia, u. a. in the concert hall of the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. As a soloist he played with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under the direction of Alexander Shelley. He played other concerts with the DOGMA Chamber Orchestra and the Heidelberg Philharmonic.

Fu is currently playing a Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi, 1750–1775, on loan from the instrument fund of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. He is also a Gerd Bucerius scholarship holder of the Zeit Foundation and the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben as well as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation, which enables him to study in the USA.
