Leonard Kipkemoi Bett (born November 3, 2000 ) is a Kenyan track and field athlete who mainly starts over 3000 meters obstacle .

Athletic career

Leonard Kipkemoi Bett qualified in 2017 at the age of 16 for the U18 World Championships in his Kenyan homeland, where he competed over a 2000 meter obstacle. In the final, he fought head-to-head with his compatriot Cleophas Meyan , won the finish sprint and won the gold medal in 5: 32.52 minutes. The two Kenyan athletes continued their country's successful streak of victories in this discipline. Bett said in the winner's interview that he hopes that the obstacle course will be a discipline in athletics at international championships for a long time to come. From 2018 he competed in the next higher age group U20 and thus over the final distance of 3000 meters in the obstacle course. While he missed qualifying for the U20 World Championships in Tampere, Finland over the flat 3000 meters , he was able to start in the obstacle course. In the final he won the silver medal with a time of 8: 25.39 minutes.

In March 2019, Bett competed in the U20 race as part of the World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus. With a time of 24:02 minutes, he came home fourth. In April he took part in the U20 African Championships in Abidjan, Ivorian. He won the gold medal in his favorite discipline. In May he set a new personal best of 8: 08.61 minutes at the Diamond League meeting in Doha. In the same place he then took part in the world championships in October , and thus his first international championships in adults. As third of his heat he moved into the final, in which he finished ninth three days later in 8: 10.64 minutes.
