Leonard Sowiński (* 1831 in Beresiwka , Podolia , † December 23, 1887 on the Statkowce estate in Volhynia ) was a Polish poet and literary historian.

He studied in Kiev , later spent six years in exile in Kursk , and lived in Warsaw since 1868 . In his lyrical poems (Posen 1878, 2 vol.) Sowiński expresses lively imagination. His tragedy "Na Ukrainie" (Vienna 1873) was less popular . With his great "History of Polish Literature" (Vilnius 1874–78, 5 vols .; the first volumes using lectures by Professor Zdanowicz), Sowiński has earned one of the first positions among Polish literary historians.
