Leonardo Ramos , full name Leonardo Alfredo Ramos Giró , (born September 11, 1969 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach.
Player career
societies
The 1.83 meter tall defensive or midfielder Ramos was at the beginning of his career from 1988 to 1992 in the ranks of the Club Atlético Progreso and was with the team for the first time in the club's history in 1989 Uruguayan champions. From 1992 to 1993 he played for Vélez Sársfield . He then worked at CA Banfield from mid-1993 to 1994 . A career stint at Estudiantes de La Plata followed from July 1994 to the end of June 1998 . For the 1998/99 season he was loaned to the Spanish club UD Salamanca . From his debut on August 30, 1998 against Real Mallorca to his last league appearance on January 10, 1999 in the game against Real Sociedad San Sebastián , he played 15 first division games for the Spaniards and scored two goals. In early February 1999 he returned to Argentina for the CA River Plate . There he is listed as a member of the management until mid-2000. This was followed by another career stop at UD Salamanca during the 2000/01 season, this time between September 3, 2000 and June 16, 2001 35 times in the Segunda División and scored once in the opposing goal. In early July 2001, the Chacarita Juniors signed him . In the second half of 2002 Estudiantes de La Plata was again his employer. In January 2003 he joined Colo Colo . In mid-2003 he moved to Nueva Chicago . From January 2004 he continued his career at Club Atlético Peñarol . The "Aurinegros" was used seven times in the 2004 season and once in the Primera División in the 2005 season . He did not succeed in scoring. Further career stations were again Chacarita Juniors in 2005 and Defensa y Justicia in 2006 . After that he is said to have played for Independiente Rivadavia in 2006/07 and for AA Lujan de Cuyo in 2007/08 .
National team
Ramos made his debut on May 5, 1991 in the 0-1 defeat in a friendly against USA under coach Pedro Ramón Cubilla in the Uruguayan senior team when he came on in the 79th minute for Paolo Montero . His last international appearance was on July 18, 2000 in a 3-1 home win in the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela. He took part in the 1997 Copa America with the “Celeste” . He played a total of nine full internationals. He didn't score a goal.
Coaching
After his active career, Ramos was a coach at Club Atlético Colegiales from July 2010 to November 25, 2010 . He then worked in the same capacity from August 2011 to December 2012 at Club Atlético Progreso . Immediately thereafter, he took the coaching position at Danubio FC that same month . This engagement, in which he won the national championship title with the team in the 2013/14 season, ended in June 2015. From February 2016 to May 2016 he was head coach at Unión La Calera and was again coach of the Danubio FC team in May. On December 19, 2016, he was introduced as the new coach of Club Atlético Peñarol from the beginning of 2017.
