Leonhard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leonhard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize is an art prize from Munich . It serves to promote young artists who have excelled themselves creatively, particularly in the musical field, in the field of fine arts or literature.

The prize goes back to a foundation by Ida Wolf, which in 1987 established the city of Munich as heiress of 30 percent of its assets and made it a condition to use the investment income to support young Munich artists with prizes. After the inheritance was accepted by the Munich city council and a non-legal foundation was established in 1995, the first prizes were awarded in 1996. Their number and amount depend on the income from the basic assets left by the founder. As a rule, one or two prizes for music and one for fine arts are awarded annually, and one or more prizes for literature every two years.

In addition to Munich, the Leonhard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize has also been awarded in Fürth since 1995 .
