Leonid Leonidowitsch Obolensky (diplomat)

Leonid Leonidowitsch Obolenski ( Russian Леонид Леонидович Оболенский ; * 1873 , † 1930 ) was a Soviet diplomat .

Life

Obolensky graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of St. Petersburg law . He joined the Bolsheviks and became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union . In 1920 he was a member of the Soviet Negotiating Group for the Peace of Riga . From October 16, 1923 to October 4, 1924 Obolenski was the Soviet envoy to Poland. In 1930 he became the museum director of the Hermitage for eight months . During his time as director and that of his successor Boris Legran , various paintings from the Hermitage were sold abroad.

Obolensky was married. His son was the Russian actor Leonid Obolensky (1902-1991).
