NGC 2661 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type SD in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 179 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years across.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 19, 1784 .
