NGC 2639 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 150 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter .
The object was discovered in 1788 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel with a 48 cm telescope.
