NGC 2633 = Arp 80 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble type SB (s) b in the constellation Camelopardalis in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 102 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years across . It was classified as a starburst galaxy by Vanzi in 1997 .
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with a large companion of high surface brightness on one arm (Arp catalog) .
It probably forms a gravitationally bound pair with NGC 2634 . In the same area of the sky there are still u. a. the galaxies NGC 2636 , NGC 2646 , IC 2389 .
The object was discovered on August 11, 1882 by Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel .
