Leonid Teliga (born May 28, 1917 in Vyasma , † May 21, 1970 in Warsaw ) was a Polish journalist, author and interpreter.

Life

Teliga was the author of many radio broadcasts, but also wrote short stories and poems. He traveled on fishing trawlers and went deep-sea fishing . In Laos he worked on the United Nations Conciliation Commission . Further trips took him to China , Korea , Italy and Africa .

On January 25, 1967, he set out on a circumnavigation of the world with the yacht Opty , which he had built, from Casablanca . He was the first Pole to circumnavigate the world as a solo sailor. After a little over two years, he returned to Casablanca on April 5, 1969. On the trip but he was ill and had to immediately after the end of the journey in a Polish hospital be brought where a cancer was diagnosed.

He gave many interviews about his trip and began work on a book about the trip, which he was unable to complete due to his imminent death.
