Leonidas Piaggio

Leonidas Piaggio (born December 13, 1887 in Salto (Uruguay) , † July 17, 1942 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine cellist and music teacher.

Piaggio first had piano lessons from his father Victor Piaggio . At the Buenos Aires Conservatory he then studied cello with Carlos Marchal and harmony and composition with Alberto Williams . He received degrees as a cello teacher (1904) and in Solfeggio (1905) and received gold medals as an instrumentalist in 1906 and 1907. He taught at the Instituto Musical "Maffioli y Solá" , the Conservatorio de Música de Buenos Aires , the Conservatorio de Música de San Martín and the Conservatorio Piaggio founded by his father , which he took over in 1919.

As a soloist, Piaggio went on concert tours through Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. He was also a member of the Cuarteto Diapasón founded by Edmundo Weingand , with whom he a. a. In 1918 he played the cycle Historia del Cuarteto at the Sociedad Wagneriana and in 1921 a complete performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartets at the Sociedad Argentina de Música de Cámara y Sinfónica . His siblings Celestino , Amelia , Leonor and Elsa Piaggio were also known as musicians and music teachers.
