Leonte Filipescu

Leonte Filipescu (born October 18, 1895 in Bîrlad , † April 13, 1922 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian labor leader .

Life

Filipescu came from a working class family. During his military service in World War I , he agitated against the war among soldiers. From 1918 to 1921 Filipescu was one of the leaders of the left wing of the Social Democratic Party. He was one of the organizers of the general strike in October 1920 and at the founding party congress of the Communist Party of Romania ( Partidul Comunist din România , PCdR) in May 1921.

In October 1921 Filipescu was arrested by the Romanian secret police and allegedly killed while trying to escape.
