Leonteus (son of Koronos)

Leonteus ( ancient Greek Λεοντεύς Leonteús ) was the son of the Lapith Koronos in Greek mythology . According to Hyginus Mythographus , he was the father of Ixion . In the Thessalian Gyrton he was ruler of the Lapiths.

With the son of Peirithoos , Polypoites , he took 40 ships into the battle for Troy on the side of the Greeks. Both were among the bravest fighters there and Leonteus was part of the crew of the Trojan horse . He also took part in the funeral games for Patroclus . After the conquest of Troy, he accompanied Kalchas with others along the coast to Kolophon . After Kalchas died and was buried there, Leonteus and his companions returned to Troy and from there to his homeland. According to Aristotle , Leonteus and Polypoites died in the land of the Medes.
