Leopold Blasel

Leopold Blasel ( May 18, 1866 in Vienna - August 2, 1931 there ) was an Austrian theater actor , engineer, innkeeper and district administrator.

Life

Leopold Blasel was the son of Karl and Johanna Blasel . He graduated from high school in 1884 and began to study chemistry at the Technical University in Vienna. He first had to interrupt his studies and earned his living running the "Winzerhaus" inn in Vienna's Prater .

On January 22nd, 1892, he married Katharina, the daughter of Vinzenz Donninger, the coach painter. In 1894 they had a son whom they also named Leopold.

After his father took over the theater in der Josefstadt , he took dramatic and E. Gärtner singing lessons from court actor Ferdinand Kracher and made his debut in 1887. Later he was also engaged at the Carltheater and assisted his father in running the variety theater.

A few years later, as a "bourgeois innkeeper", he first became a member of the district executive and, from 1912 to 1918, also became the social democratic district head of the second district of Vienna ( Leopoldstadt ).

Leopold Blasel is the author of the book "Vienna. Condemned to Death: A Current Study on the Elections to the Constituent Assembly", which was published in 1918.

He died in Vienna in 1931.

His cousin Paul Blasel as well as his wife Leopoldine Blasel also became actors and singers.
