Leopold Haidenthaler

Leopold Haidenthaler (* 1879 , † June 18, 1961 ) was an Austrian civil servant and butterfly collector who earned merits in the field of entomology .

Life

Haidenthaler was a civil servant in the city of Salzburg , most recently in the rank of senior magistrate. He has been engaged in entomology as a butterfly collector since the 1920s . He mainly specialized in large butterflies . He focused on researching the Salzburg lepidoptera fauna . He is described as the " hardest-working and most meticulous collector of butterflies " after the First World War. In addition to his collection, he created a catalog in which he entered all butterfly observations. In addition to the documentation, the catalog also contains drawings of the species observed. His exact and detailed records are also currently a valuable source for the Salzburg butterflies area.
