Leopold Scharmitzer

Leopold Scharmitzer (born September 22, 1882 in Gänserndorf , † April 18, 1944 ) was an Austrian politician ( CS / VF ) and farmer. Scharmitzer was a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament from 1921 to 1938 and a regional councilor in the Lower Austrian provincial government between 1931 and 1932 .

After elementary school, Scharmitzer attended the Feldsberg agricultural college and in 1902 took over his parents' farm in Gänserndorf. He was rooted in local politics and had held from 1919 to 1929 the mayor of Gänserndorf, from 1935 to 1936 he was council . Scharmitzer was also chairman of the Lower Austrian beet farmers' association between 1926 and 1938 and chairman of the Association of Rural Cooperatives in Lower Austria from 1927 to 1938. Scharmitzer represented the Christian Social Party between May 11, 1921 and October 30, 1934 in the Lower Austrian state parliament, where he was also regional councilor between July 1, 1931 and May 21, 1932. During the Austrofascism he was a member of the state parliament, where he worked as a representative of the monetary, credit and insurance sectors between November 22, 1934 and March 12, 1938. Scharmitzer was made an honorary citizen of Lassee and Gänserndorf in 1934, but this was revoked in 1938. In addition, he was awarded the professional title of economics councilor . After the National Socialists came to power, Scharmitzer was arrested in 1938.
