Leopold Weber (geologist)

Leopold Weber (born August 11, 1948 in Vienna ) is an Austrian geologist who deals in particular with raw materials and deposit geology and is active in this area in Austria in a leading position.

Weber studied geology at the University of Vienna from 1969 to 1973 and received his doctorate in 1974 ( The age of siderite mineralization in the western part of Gollrad Bay ). From 1973 to 1979 he was an assistant at the University of Vienna and then a geologist at the Supreme Mining Authority in the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry. In 1986 he became head of the geosciences and geotechnical engineering department (today the raw materials department ).

In addition, he completed his habilitation in 1991 and taught as a university professor at the Montanuniversität Leoben and the University of Vienna .

He was committed to German-Austrian cooperation on raw material issues and at EU level as the Austrian representative of the Raw Minerals Supply Group .

Weber is co-editor and co-author of the annual World Mining Data, the Metallogenetic Map of Austria , the Handbook of the Deposits of Ores, Industrial Minerals and Energy Resources in Austria and the Austrian raw material information system IRIS. He is significantly involved in the Austrian Raw Materials Plan.

In 2006 he received the Serge von Bubnoff Medal .
