Antonis Lepeniotis ( Greek Ἀντώνης Λεπενιώτης Andonis Lepeniótis , born April 20, 1932 in Athens ; † July 23, 2004 ibid) was a Greek film director and screenwriter .

Live and act

After training as a set designer, he moved to Vienna in 1957 . Here he initially worked as an actor and set designer at the Theater der Courage and the Atelier-Theater.

Lepeniotis began working as a film director in 1964 with short experimental documentary strips. In 1968 he represented with his experimental film The Death of Dr. Antonio through the renaissance of intellectual society , an aperçu about the isolated, over-civilized people, Austria at the international film festival in Knokke .

In 1970 his first feature film, Alkeste, or The Meaning of Protection, caused a sensation , in which he used the Alkestis material in a polemic against the military regime in Greece. It was at the same time the first essential work of the New Austrian Cinema . In addition to numerous documentaries produced by ORF , Lepeniotis also directed other feature films with Das Manifest (1974) and Enterprise V2 (1976) / Operation Hydra (1980), an examination of misconduct during the Nazi era.
