Leppin (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leppin is a desert area in the area of today's municipality of Rechlin in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The former community was at the northern end of the Hofsee and gave its name to the Leppinsee , which is one and a half kilometers further east and where there was a brickworks. In 1910 141 people lived there. In 1936, the Rechlin Air Force Testing Center took over the district to test weapons there. By decree of August 14, 1939, the previously independent municipality, which no longer had any residents , was incorporated into the municipality of Rechlin together with eight others, including the now also desolate Klopzow and Roggentin. Today the northern part of the district belongs to the Müritz National Park .
