Leptobarbus ( Gr .: Λεπτός leptós "thin" + Lat .: "Barbus" = Bartel) is a genus of Southeast Asian carp .

features

Leptobarbus species grow to be 8.5 cm to one meter long. Their scales are medium in size. The mouth does not extend to the front edge of the orbit . There are four barbels around the mouth . The gill rakes are short, lanceolate and stand wide apart. Tooth formula for the pharynx: 5.3.2-2.3.5. The dorsal fin begins above the pelvic fin attachment and is supported by one undivided and seven divided soft rays, the short anal fin by five divided soft rays. Systematics

The genus leptobarbus was built in 1860 by the Dutch ichthyologist Pieter Bleeker described and in the 1864 monotype asked subfamily Leptobarbinae. The genus has retained its isolated position within the carp fish to this day. Stout and colleagues raised all subfamilies of the Cyprinidae to family status in 2016. The scientific fish database Catalog of Fishes took over this and now manages the Leptobarbidae as well as the other former subfamilies of the Cyprinidae as independent families.
