Leptocentrus is a genus of humpback chirps from the subfamily Centrotinae. The genus contains more than 90 species, making it one of the four most species-rich genera of the humpback hoppers. It is particularlywidespreadin the Oriental region, but also in Afrotropic, Palaearctic, Indomalayan, Australian and oceanic areas. L. altifrons, L. reponens, L. taurus and L. vicarius , for example, are very widespread.
The pronotum of the Leptocentrus cicadas has a characteristic pointed spine that extends backwards and two lateral tips in front. The cicadas are mostly dark, brown, sometimes with light spots. They are about five to seven millimeters long.
Several species of the genus Leptocentrus , including L. taurus, are pests on sandalwood and other economically important plants on the Indian subcontinent. L. longispinus is associated with ants on sandalwood.
