Leptocereus wrightii is a species of plant in the genus Leptocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet wrightii honors the American botanist Charles Wright , who explored Texas and Cuba in particular.
description
Leptocereus wrightii grows shrubby with mostly numerous branches and reaches heights of up to 3 meters. Occasionally a trunk with a diameter of up to eight inches is formed. The uppermost drive segments reach a diameter of 4.5 to 6 centimeters. There are four to five ribs . The up to 14 perennial thorns are gray to brownish and 4 to 8 centimeters long.
The pink to whitish yellow flowers often appear in groups. They are 5 to 6.5 inches long and 3.5 inches in diameter. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with reddish thorns. The greenish fruits reach a length of 8 to 10 centimeters and a diameter of up to 7.5 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Leptocereus wrightii is distributed in Cuba between Habana del Este and Cojimar on limestone cliffs on a total area of about 4 km².
The first description was in 1940 by Hermano León .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
