Charles Wright

Charles Wright (born October 29, 1811 in Wethersfield , Connecticut , † August 11, 1885 there ) was an American botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " C.Wright "; earlier the abbreviation " Wright " was also in use, which is currently assigned to John Wright .

Live and act

Wright graduated from Yale University in 1835 . In 1853 he took part in the United States North Pacific Exploring Expedition as a botanist; his collections from this expedition were edited by Asa Gray at Cambridge . From 1857 to 1863 he undertook numerous collecting trips to Cuba , some of which were described by August Grisebach in his Plantae Wrightianae e Cuba Orientali . After his last trip to Cuba in 1867, he spent much time at the Gray Herbarium in Cambridge, Massachusetts .

Wright worked on the work Flora cubana (1868 to 1873) by Francisco Adolfo Sauvalle .

Honors

The plant genus Carlowrightia A.Gray from the acanthus family (Acanthaceae) is named after him .
