Les Cahiers du Jazz is a French jazz magazine founded in 1959 by Lucien Malson . Malson was initially also editor-in-chief (until 1971). It appeared at irregular intervals, about one to three times a year, initially until 1968 (issue no. 16/17), then in a second series from 1994 to 1997 (11 issues) and in a third series from 2001 with around 8 issues per Year, often dedicated to certain musicians (for example No. 1/2004 Keith Jarrett ). The new series was edited by Malson, directed by Frank Tenot and Daniel Filipacchi , and later by Laurent Cugny and Malson (2011).

In the 1960s, important jazz critics and jazz authors such as Joachim Ernst Berendt , Gunther Schuller , Boris Vian , the discographer Jørgen Grunnet Jepsen , Max Harrison , André Hodeir , Martin Williams , Frank Ténot and Alain Gerber wrote in the magazine . In addition to essays and thematic debates, there were also record reviews and book reviews and reports from festivals.

Later authors included Laurent Cugny , Gérard Conte , André Clergeat , Alain Tercinet and Philippe Baudoin

The new series is published by Outre Mesure.
