Gérard Conte
Gérard Conte (* 1. February 1931 in Gorcy , Meurthe-et-Moselle , † 23. May 2012 ) was a French jazz - author .
Life
Gérard Conte became aware of New Orleans Jazz while doing his military service in Germany in 1950 . With the help of Charles Delaunay , he began in 1954 to publish articles on the history of jazz and traditional jazz in the magazine Jazz Hot . He also wrote for the magazines Les Cahiers du Jazz and Jazz Classique and contributed to the creation of the Dictionnaire du Jazz (Robert Laffont publishing house).
In 1963 he founded the Association Française des Amateurs de Jazz Nouvelle-Orléans , which u. a. 1998 for the naming of a Place Louis Armstrong in Paris' 13th arrondissement . He published two books on the history of this arrondissement. In 1964 he organized the first Jazz Band Ball in the town hall of the 5th arrondissement , which was followed by 21 other events and which was revived in November 2011 - albeit without Gérard Conte.
