Lucien Malson (born May 14, 1926 in Bordeaux ; † January 27, 2017 ) was a French jazz journalist and author.

Live and act

Malson received his doctorate in literary studies , in which he also received his agrégation . He also obtained a diploma (Diplôme d'études supérieures) in philosophy , which he taught for several years as a professor at the Center national de pédagogie de Beaumont (CNEFASES). From 1946 he wrote for the magazines Vent d'Ouest and Jazz Hot , where he was part of the editorial team with André Hodeir , Charles Delaunay and Boris Vian . From 1956 he maintained jazz columns in various magazines such as Radio-Cinéma , Arts , Jazz Magazine and moderated jazz programs on the national radio France IV (today France Musique ). At RTF (now ORTF ) he created the program Le bureau du Jazz and until 1996 he hosted radio programs such as Black and Blue and Jazz d'aujourd'hui at France Culture . He initiated the program Black and Blue , which lasted until 2008, in the early 1970s with the jazz critic and writer Alain Gerber (* 1943).

In 1959 he founded the magazine Les Cahiers du Jazz and was its editor-in-chief until 1971. He was also a music critic for Le Monde . He is the author of several jazz books published in France. He wrote a multi-edition book about wolf children (specifically about Victor von Aveyron ) and was a member of the Charles Cros Academy .
