Les Poppys is a French boy band .

history

Jean Amoureux († September 2, 2009) founded a boys' choir in Asnières in 1946 , which was initially called "L'Alauda" and later "Les Petits Chanteurs d'Asnières en Ile-de-France" ("The little singers from Asnières") wore. The first television appearance followed in 1951, and in 1960 an appearance on the show You are super! who introduced the group. The choir has occasionally been characterized as the French St. Thomas Choir on pop.

In October 1970 Eddie Barclay was looking for a children's group with whom he could present songs in the style of the time on current topics such as the protest against the Vietnam War , and turned to Amoureux's choir. The group was renamed "Les Poppys" - the name was based on the musical style of the group and provided with a diminutive ending to indicate the young age of the singers.

In December 1970 the first single with Noël 70 and Non, je ne veux pas faire la guerre came out. This was followed by broadcasts on Europe 1 , RTL and television. In the spring of 1971, “Les Poppys” received enthusiastic applause on a program by Guy Lux . This was followed by international appearances.

The choir has produced recordings with John William , Isabelle Aubrey , Nana Mouskouri , Fernand Raynaud , France Gall , Michel Legrand , Sacha Distel , Marcel Amont , Lenny Kuhr and Mireille Mathieu , among others .

In 1983 a new group was founded, "Abbacadabra", with the album LP 30 . In 1987 the "New Poppies" were founded. In 1993 an LP / CD followed under the name Mercredi Libre with songs that corresponded to the rhythms of the 90s. But the singers were still active under the name "Les Poppys"; In 2005 they brought out the hit Mon plus beau Noël with Johnny Hallyday , in 2006 Aux arbres citoyens with Yannick Noah .

In 2016 a new project of the "Petits Chanteurs d'Asnières" was launched. Under the name “New Poppys”, the single Rien n'a changé was initially released in July 2016 , a new version of the 1971 hit, which can also be downloaded from the relevant portals in Germany. In November the new album of the “New Poppys” was released, which was presented at the annual gala of the “Petits Chanteurs d'Asnières” to mark the 70th anniversary of the choir. With the single, they seem to be able to build on their old successes.
