The Metro Station Les Sablons is an underground station of Line 1 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the southeast of the Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine . It is located under the Avenue Charles de Gaulle at the intersection of Rue d'Orléans - Boulevard des Sablons.

Surname

It is named after the Boulevard des Sablons. It is located in the "Plaine des Sablons" (German: fine sand plain), where the sand for Parisian building projects was extracted from sand pits .

The station bears the suffix " Jardin d'Acclimatation ". It refers to the park of the same name, opened as a zoological garden in 1860, on the northern edge of the nearby Bois de Boulogne .

History and description

The station was put into operation on April 29, 1937 as part of the extension of Line 1 from Porte Maillot to Pont de Neuilly . It was already built with a length of 105 m, theoretically sufficient for seven-car trains. Two side platforms lie under an elliptical vault on either side of the main line. The side walls follow the curvature of the ellipse and - like the ceiling originally - are tiled in white.

At the beginning of the 1960s, line 1 was converted to run on rubber-tired trains. In 2008 and 2009 the station was renovated. The wall coverings from the second half of the 20th century were removed again, as were the exposed tiles and station signs from the early days. The platforms have been raised with a view to the use of driverless trains. The station has been equipped with platform screen doors since summer 2009 .

There are four entrances from the street.

vehicles

Initially, there were five-car Sprague-Thomson trains that were painted light gray (with a red 1st class car) and stayed on Line 1 until the 1960s. From May 1963, the Sprague-Thomson trains running on rails were gradually replaced by rubber-tired vehicles (six-car trains of the MP 59 series ) that run on chassis beams attached to both sides of the track. Until December 1964 there was mixed traffic of the two modes of operation. The MP 89  CC series followed in 1997, which gave way to the MP 05 series with the start of automatic operation.

Surroundings

The 8.46 km² Bois de Boulogne is one of the largest city parks in the world.

Remarks

  1. Due to the shorter length of most of the other stations, only six-car trains can run on Line 1
  2. On the other lines, the trains remained green with a red 1st class car or compartment
  3. The mobile beams, which were originally made of wood, have been largely replaced by double T-beams
  4. CC means "Conduite Conducteur" (driver-controlled), in contrast to the driverless type MP 89 CA
