Leskov Island ( Russian Остров Лескова Ostrow Leskowa ) is an ice-covered and uninhabited island in the western ice shelf off the Leopold and Astrid coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It has an area of about 49.5 km², which corresponds to a length of about 9 km and a width of about 5.5 km. The highest point on the island is 180.01 m . Leskov Island is located about 6 km north-northeast of Mikhaylov Island .
The uninhabited island was discovered in 1956 by a Soviet Antarctic expedition. Namesake is Arkadi Sergejewitsch Leskow (1797-1858), third officer on the ship Vostok in the first Russian Antarctic expedition (1819-1821) under the direction of Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian designation into English in 1965.
