Lessel (noble family)
The von Lessel family is a noble family from Silesia who still live mainly in Germany.
Origin and Distribution
The family, which had different spellings of its name in the course of history (Leslau, Leslow, Lessen, Lassel, Lessel, Leßel and Leszel), first appears in a document in 1112 with Paulus Leslau. Since there are several places with the name Lessen in the vicinity of Grünberg , Lower Silesia (Groß-, Klein- and Wenig-Lessen), the family name is derived from these places with a certain probability. One branch of the family moved to Poland, where they also called themselves Radzinski or Wabienski after the local estates.
coat of arms
The red coat of arms shows an upright silver rake with 7 prongs, the handle of which ends in an arrowhead. On the helmet with red and silver covers, a bush of black cock feathers between 2 silver arrows turned diagonally outwards.
Coat of arms of the Polish branch: In gold on the green three-mountain of the rake; 5 silver ostrich feathers on the helmet with red and silver covers.
