Johann von Lessel

Johann Friedrich August von Lessel (born May 1, 1873 in Berlin ; † December 12, 1936 in Lübeck ) was a German sea ​​captain in World War I and a politician of the DVFB and MdL in the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1924-1926).

Life

Johann came from the old Silesian noble family von Lessel . He was the son of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Emil von Lessel (1847-1927) and his wife Helene Charlotte Dorothea, née Haseloff (born September 25, 1850 in Burg ; † August 7, 1910 in Halle ).

Lessel joined the Imperial Navy as a cadet on April 12, 1890 . During his military career in 1913/14 he was director of the artillery department at the Kaiserliche Werft Wilhelmshaven . During the First World War, after being promoted to captain at sea on October 17, 1915, Lessel commanded the Alsace liner from November 1915 to July 1916, the Rhineland large liner from December 1916 to August 1917, and then Friedrich the Great until December 1918 . He was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross for his achievements .

After the end of the war he took his leave, became a politician and was a member of the state parliament of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin from 1924 to 1926 .

Lessel was an honorary knight of the Order of St. John , holder of the Crown Order II. Class with Swords and the Bavarian Military Merit Order III. Class with crown and swords.
