The state parliament of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin is a historic parliament. It existed from 1919 to 1933 and was the legislature of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

Legal basis and structure

The legal basis for the election of the state parliament was the state election law of May 17, 1920. According to the fourth section of the constitution of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin of May 17, 1920, the state parliament was elected according to the principle of proportional representation for a period of three years. The number of MPs fluctuated, but always had to be at least 50. The minimum age for active and passive voting rights was 21 years.

Its tasks were the legislation, the election of the ministers and the prime minister, the supervision of the entire state administration, the exercise of the budget law and, if necessary, the prosecution of ministers.

The concert hall of the court theater was set up as a meeting room, the present day concert foyer in the building of the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin .

After the state parliaments of the two Free States of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Mecklenburg-Schwerin, under National Socialist pressure, decided to reunify Mecklenburg at a joint meeting in Rostock in October 1933 and implemented it with effect from January 1, 1934, the state parliament of Mecklenburg became with the law over the rebuilding of the Reich on January 30, 1934 dissolved.

After the Second World War , the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was established (the addition of Western Pomerania was deleted in 1947). Its state parliament existed until the dissolution of the states in the GDR .
