The Let VT-16 Orlík (Adler) is a glider produced by the Czech company Let .
history
The VT-16 was developed from the XLF-114 standard under the direction of Jiří Matějček . The prototype M-16 had its maiden flight with František Kder on August 12, 1956 at Brno -Medlánky airfield . The aircraft was approved in Czechoslovakia on September 30, 1961 and was built 84 times at Orličan in Choceň (later LET , now Schempp-Hirth ).
The aircraft design was soon further developed by the same team to the VT-116 Orlík II , which then had its maiden flight in 1964 and of which 220 units were built by 1969. During the development, particular emphasis was placed on inexpensive production, undemanding maintenance and easy assembly. The result was a single-seat wooden shoulder- wing aircraft , with the half-shell hull made of wood and the trapezoidal wing made of plywood with a foam polystyrene filling. Due to its light structure, the machine was not suitable for aerobatics, but it was easy to fly. Individual specimens still fly today (especially in the Czech Republic ).
