The Let L-200 Morava ( German Moravia ) is a Czechoslovak touring aircraft . It was created in the second half of the 1950s .
development
The construction work began in 1956 at LET in Kunovice and was led by engineer Ladislaw Smrček. The aircraft was a twin-engine low- wing aircraft in all-metal half-shell construction. The trapezoidal, two-spar wing had slotted flaps and was equipped at its ends with teardrop-shaped tanks that together held 230 liters of fuel. Two further containers with 95 liters each were located internally in the wing. The tail unit consisted of the elevator and two rudders integrated in end plates. The nose wheel landing gear was fully retractable, with the main wheels going into the motor pods.
The first flight of the prototype took place on April 8, 1957. Two air-cooled in- line engines Walter Minor 6-III with 160 hp each served as propulsion . The engines were also used in the first batch, which began production in 1959. The more powerful L-200A followed in 1960 . It was powered by two 210 hp Walter M337 engines and had electrically adjustable V-410 two-blade propellers. In 1962 the even better L-200D appeared with a standard deicing system and more luxurious cabin equipment. The engines were retained, but now powered hydraulically adjustable V-506 three-bladed propellers. The chassis was reinforced and the hydraulic system improved.
Production ended in 1986 after the 361st copy. The L-200 was an export success and flew in 22 countries, with 181 pieces being delivered to the Soviet Union alone. The aircraft was characterized by robustness, reliability and good flight characteristics.
Others
The GDR bought an L-200D in 1963 and used it for a short time as a touring plane for the State Security until it was written off in 1965 after an accident. Two other L-200 series A and D flew with GST from 1968 to 1987 . The " WLB " flies today with the registration D-GALE , the " WLA " is in the Aviation Museum Finowfurt .
