Lethem is a city in southern Guyana . It has 1702 inhabitants (as of 2012) and is the capital of the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo region .
geography
Lethem is located on the east bank of the Rio Tacutu River across from Bonfim in Brazil , to which it is connected by the Takutu River Bridge . The region around Lethem is characterized by savannah.
Infrastructure
Lethem is the most important traffic center in southern Guyana. It is connected to the capital Georgetown by a trunk road and to Brazil via the bridge that opened in 2009. There are also flights from Lethem Airport to various cities in Guyana.
