The Leuchtenberg Sauerkrautfabrik is a food manufacturer . Originally the company was based in Neuss , in 2017 the production and the headquarters of the management were relocated to Bornheim , but the entry in the commercial register still shows Neuss as the company's headquarters. Leuchtenberg is the oldest sauerkraut factory in Germany. It makes sauerkraut from white cabbage . Other products include canned vegetables with lactic acid-fermented cutting beans and red cabbage as well as stews .

The factory in Neuss was founded in 1861 by Josef Leuchtenberg on the Neusser Rheinwiesen. In 1906, Leuchtenberg sold the business to Johann Josten, who relocated the business to Augustinusstrasse. In 2010, more than 10,000 tons of white cabbage were processed annually.

In 2017 the site of the factory at Augustinusstrasse 58-60, east of St. Alexius- / St. Josef Hospital and the cloister garden of the Immaculata monastery , taken over by the Neusser Bauverein . The architectural office Konrath und Wennemar won the competition for the urban redesign of the site, in the meantime the factory has been demolished in preparation for the new building. The Immaculata Monastery was established in 1923 in the former Villa Leuchtenberg.

The new location for production and the headquarters of the management is in Sechtem , Bornheim, on the site of the Rheinische Konservenfabrik Georg Seidel GmbH & Co. KG.
