The Pelzerhaken lighthouse is located about four kilometers southeast of Neustadt in Holstein in the Pelzerhaken district on the Baltic Sea . It serves as an orientation light for shipping in the Neustädter Bucht , a sub-bay of the Lübeck Bay .
The old tower
The first tower on this site was built in 1842 and 1843 under Danish rule. It was a square, plastered building with an extension. The pilot quarters were housed in the adjoining house of the lighthouse keeper until 1876 . The lighthouse keeper was also a customs assistant until 1864/65. The 12 meter high tower was equipped with rotating lens optics. A kerosene lamp provided the white continuous fire, which was interrupted twice every two minutes, at an interval of 15 seconds for 13 seconds.
Conversions
In 1936 the tower was raised to its current height of 19.4 meters. He received a veneer made of red bricks and an imperial eagle with an oak leaf wreath and year on the front . A red warning sector in the optics has since marked the shallow stone reef . The optics were rebuilt in 2000.
The Lübeck Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the tower ; the fire is monitored and remotely controlled from the branch in Travemünde . Entering the fenced area and viewing the tower is not possible.
