Levy Barent Cohen

Levy Barent Cohen (* 1747 in Amsterdam , † 1808 in England) was an English financier and Jewish communal worker .

The son of the wealthy Amsterdam merchant Barent Cohen went to England with his brother and built up a large business in London by 1778. In 1798 he was naturalized and eventually known as one of the city's leading merchants. He set up some shops and the Jewish hospital.

He was married twice. Through his children he was associated with almost all of the leading Jewish families in England. Hannah married Nathan Mayer Rothschild , Judith married Moses Montefiore , Jessy married Meyer Davidson in 1816 (* around 1785 in Germany; Rothschild's first agent) and the others in the Goldsmid, Samuel and Lucas families.
