Lev Alexandrovich Chugayev

Lev Alexandrowitsch Tschugajew ( Russian Лев Александрович Чугаев ; * 4th October July / 16 October  1873 greg. In Moscow ; † 23 September 1922 in Grjasowez ) was a Russian professor of chemistry. His areas of work were complex compounds of nickel ( Tschugaew reagent ) and platinum, triboluminescence , terpenes , xanthates and optical activity . In organic chemistry, the Chugayev reaction is named after him.

He died of typhus .

From 1971 to 1991 the Academy of Sciences of the USSR awarded the Chugayev Prize. Since 1995 it has been awarded by the Russian Academy of Sciences for outstanding achievements in the field of chemistry of complex compounds .
