Li Lili

Li Lili ( Chinese  黎莉莉 , Pinyin Lí Lìlì ) (born June 2, 1915 in Beijing ; † August 7, 2005 there ) was a Chinese actress .

She was born into a poor family under the name Qian Zhenzhen ( Chinese  钱 蓁 蓁 , Pinyin Qián Zhēnzhēn ). In 1927 she went to Shanghai , the center of the Chinese film industry in the 1920s and 1930s. In 1931 she became an actress and appeared in six films by the director Sun Yu , some of them alongside the actress Ruan Lingyu . Her appearance was sporty and modern. Her major films include Tian Lun (1935), directed by Fei Mu and Luo Mingyou . After Shanghai was occupied by the Japanese army, she commuted between Chongqing and Hong Kong to act in films. In 1946 she went briefly to the USA , but returned to China the following year and became an actress at Beijing Film Studios after the liberation of China. In 1955 she enrolled at the newly formed Beijing Film Academy and taught there after graduating.

Most recently she appeared in Stanley Kwan's Homage to Ruan Lingyu Yuen Ling-yuk in 1992 .
