The Beijing Film Academy , also the Beijing Film School ( Chinese  北京 电影 学院 , Pinyin Běijīng Diànyǐng Xuéyuàn ) is the only film school in China and the most important of its kind in Asia.

It is located in the Haidian district of Beijing , where most of the universities in the Chinese capital are located.

history

The Beijing Film Academy was established in May 1950 under the name Performance Art Institution of the Film Bureau of the Ministry of Culture and renamed several times over the next five years until it was finally on June 1, 1956 was named Beijing Film Academy .

Every year tens of thousands of candidates apply for admission to the Film Academy, but only between 400 and 500 are admitted.

During the Cultural Revolution of 1966, the Beijing Film Academy, like most educational institutions in the People's Republic of China , was badly affected and many lecturers had to leave the university. In 1978, two years after the end of the Cultural Revolution, the university again made it possible for new students to enroll.

Graduates

The famous graduates of the Beijing Film Academy include directors of the so-called fourth, fifth and sixth generation, such as Wu Tianming (4th generation), Tian Zhuangzhuang , Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou (5th generation), as well as Jia Zhangke , Wang Xiaoshuai and Zhang Yuan (6th generation). Successful actors who have graduated from college include Xu Jinglei , Zhao Wei , Huang Xiaoming , Liu Yifei and Jiang Yihong .
