Errol Alibux

Liakat Ali Errol Alibux (born November 30, 1948 in Paramaribo ) is a politician from Suriname who was Prime Minister of Suriname between 1983 and 1984 . He has been ambassador to Turkey since 2013 .

Life

Liakat Ali Errol Alibux studied sociology from 1967 to 1973 at the Erasmus University Rotterdam . After Suriname gained independence from the Kingdom of the Netherlands on November 25, 1975, he was politically active in the Progressieve Arbeiders- en Landbouwersunie (Progressieve Arbeiders- en Landbouwersunie) founded on March 12, 1977, and was appointed Minister for Social Affairs and Housing (Minister van Sociale Zaken en Huisvesting) was appointed to the government of President and Prime Minister Hendrick Chin A Sen , of which he was a member until 1982. During the tenure of President Ramdat Misier he replaced Henry R. Neyhorst as Prime Minister of Suriname (Premier van Suriname) on February 28, 1983 and kept this office until his replacement by Willem Frederik Udenhout on February 6, 1984. In his government took over he also held the post of Foreign Minister (Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken) between 1983 and 1984 . He then served as ambassador to Brazil between 1985 and 1986 .

1996 Alibux was appointed Minister for Natural Resources (Minister van Natuurlijke Hulpbronnen) by Vice-President Pretapnarian Shawh Radhakishun , who was ex officio also Chairman of the Council of Ministers and thus Prime Minister . In the course of a government reshuffle, he also took over the office of Minister of Finance (Minister van Financiën) in the government on December 8, 1999 and held this office until 2000. At the same time, Foreign Minister Errol Snijders also took over the office of Minister of Defense. In November 2003, he was sentenced to one year imprisonment for forgery and miscalculation, of which he served eight months in 2004. In 2013 he was appointed Ambassador to Turkey by President Desi Bouterse . His appointment met with criticism because of his alleged involvement in the so-called " December murders " ('Decembermoorden') in 1982. Alibux was acquitted of involvement in the murders in December 2019 .
