Liana Issakadze ( Georgian ლიანა ისაკაძე , Russian Лиана Исакадзе ; born August 2, 1946 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian violinist .

Life

Liana Issakadze was born in Tbilisi . At the age of nine she played with the state symphony orchestra. In 1956 she played her first solo concert. After graduating from the Moscow Conservatory , she became David Oistrach's assistant for two years . Since 1965 Liana Issakadze has given concerts as a violinist all over Europe. In 1970 she won first prize at the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki with Pavel Kogan .

From 1964 to 1981 she played with a Stradivarius from the state musical instrument collection. Then she became artistic director and then conductor of the Georgian Chamber Orchestra . In 1988 she was honored as a People's Artist of the USSR .
