Liberal and Democratic Group
The Liberal and Democratic Group (LD) was a group in the European Parliament from 1979 to 2004 . It emerged from the group of Liberals and Allies (LIB) founded in 1953 in the parliamentary assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community . 1976 parallel to the existing Group was the party association Federation of Liberal and Democratic Parties in the European Community , which later under the name of European Liberals and Democrats (ELD) and European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR) changed its name. Accordingly, the parliamentary group was renamed several times; 1985 in the Liberal and Democratic Reform Group (LDR) and in 1994 in the Group of the European Liberals, Democratic and Reform Party (ELDR). After the 2004 European elections , the ELDR and the European Democratic Party (EDP) founded the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE).
